In Reply to: RE: That Sony got Rave reviews. Are you sure about those Equivalencies? posted by oldmkvi on January 03, 2020 at 18:39:43
I was referring to its equivalence in terms of the digital resolution it can handle. Both the Sony NW-WM1Z Signature and the FiiO M11 Pro can handle PCM up through 384-kHz/32-bits and DSD up through DSD256.I've owned both the FiiO M11 and the FiiO M11 Pro, but I've never owned the Sony so I can't compare their sound quality. However, I do own a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and I think my FiiO M11 Pro sounds just as good if not better than my Brooklyn Bridge.
I don't have any experience with Korg, either. However, the things I find very attractive about the FiiO M11 Pro is its sound quality compared to my Brooklyn Bridge and its price. The M11 Pro sounds slightly better than the M11, but they both sound very good. the M11 sells for $450 and the M11 Pro sells for $650.
The new FiiO M15 Flagship incorporates the same DAC chips used in the $3500 Astell & Kern SP2000 and costs only $1460 in comparison. Both of these players can handle PCM up through 768-kHz/32-bits and native DSD up through DSD512.

"However, I do own a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and I think my FiiO M11 Pro sounds just as good if not better than my Brooklyn Bridge."- Which one has a warmer more full-bodied or robust sound?
- Which one is more dynamic?
- Which one is more transparent?
I could go on but as you might already know, I prefer a relatively full-bodied robust sound over what might seem to be more 'neutral'. My favorite DACs often fall into that category of being "robust" and "lively" especially in the mids and lower mids.
My old PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC is just about right for my taste, as was the Ayre QB-9 DSD DAC. My Wyred4Sound DAC-2 DSD is similar but a wee bit more weighty.

I think the FiiO M11 Pro has a slightly warmer more full-bodied or robust sound. I think they're both equally dynamic and I think the Brooklyn Bridge might be very slightly more transparent or neutral. They both sound very good to me and better than anything I've owned previously, but I think I like the FiiO M11 Pro just a little bit better than the Brooklyn Bridge. YMMV
I'm really anxious to buy the FiiO M15 Flagship , but I'm waiting to buy it through Amazon or B&H Photo.

"I'm really anxious to buy the FiiO M15 Flagship, but I'm waiting to buy it through Amazon or B&H Photo."I like B&H and Amazon too, even if their pricing doesn't beat some other vendors. Their return policies are excellent in case you have a problem or simply change your mind. Good luck! Hope the FiiO M15 betters your current M11 Pro.
P.S. Thanks for the comments comparing the FiiO and your Mytek.

I like the prices on Amazon. HiFiGO sells the FiiO M15 for $1460 and AliExpress sells it for $1350, but Amazon just listed it for $1300 so I ordered one. I'm glad I waited for Amazon.

Excellent! If you have any issues with it or just want to send it back it seems that Amazon is by far the easiest hassle-free route.
I've never sent anything back just because I didn't like it. I've only returned items if they were defective or had some sort of problem. This is because I like to buy brand new components that haven't been used by others. Those Bluetooth headphones I recently bought had definitely been used by someone else, but I probably would not have sent them back had they not also been defective.

Yes, Amazon is absolutely wonderful for returns. I've had only two problems with defective items from Amazon over the years and the return process is amazingly simple.
I recently bought a pair of Bluetooth headphones that were used and defective. In fact, they smelled like cigarette smoke and the interconnect cable was missing. I was rather shocked because this was the very first item that I'd received from Amazon that wasn't factory sealed. Anyway, I logged into Amazon and reported the problem and I received a return label via email with instructions to deliver the defective headphones to Kohl's Department Store less than a mile from my home. Kohl's is an Amazon return facility and they took care of sending the headphones back free of charge. Moreover, Amazon shipped another set of headphones immediately and I received a brand new factory sealed package within a day of delivering the defective ones to Kohl's. I guess that's one reason I really like Amazon. Of course, I don't think I should have received the used, defective headphones in the first place, but it was definitely one of the easiest exchanges I'd ever experienced.
Best regards,
John Elison
