In Reply to: RE: Can't sign up for Qobuz Sublime+ from USA posted by Loan Arranger on June 05, 2017 at 17:19:50
Qobuz checks the IP address of the request and provides a form for subscribing that matches the originating country of that request. For example I just clicked on the Sublime+ subscribe option and the form generated has a URL ending in GB for my country.
This obviously only works if the requester's country is valid. So even if you use a proxy it won't necessarily work if the proxy IP address does not indicate an origination in France, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Austria or Italy. Obviously your proxy address does not hence your being directed to a page asking you to contact customer service.
Paypal is shown on the form page as an acceptable payment method.
Or a French Proxy server?
Or give someone in France my login credentials and PayPal info?
Or will they use the existing PayPal account if I'm currently using PayPal for my monthly subscription?
If and when you reach the Sublime+ subscription form you will find that there is an option at the bottom for existing Qobuz subscribers. So maybe you can simply change your subscription from CD quality to Sublime+ directly ? You may be able to do it from the options in "My Account" ( or the equivalent in French) when you are logged in to your existing subscription.
If you are going to fly to France then why not stop off in London and sign up to the UK service and get it in English? However that would seem to require the creation of a new account.
If Britain leaving the EU means all of the English people retired in the South of France lose their free French healthcare and have to sell their places and go back to the UK, we may be able to afford a nice place there after all. ;-)
People ask how I cans spend so much time living in France when my French is so poor. I explain that half the people living in Provence are retired Brits there for the weather and the health care.
That is so true, as is the situation in Spain where I have a number of ex-pat friends.
The British are so numerous in southern Spain that one town near the Andalucian coast even has (or had) a British mayor.
Settling the reciprocity of healthcare between EU and British citizens is supposed to be the first thing on the agenda of the Brexit talks which start very shortly. Of course right now we do not know who will represent the British side. I suspect that whichever UK government the period of negotiation will lead to fluctuations in currency value and FTSE index which is why I have bought a dCS Vivaldi DAC and master clock now so as to listen to Qobuz and to try to keep this thread on topic :-). Arrives later this week/early next. NB: I don't think it has the new MQA option as I believe that is in the upsampler/streamer box which I haven't bought, not being a fan of upsampling.
" People ask how I cans spend so much time living in France when my French is so poor. "
In Spain I knew a couple who met there. Husband British, wife Russian. He speaks no Russian, she has around four English words only ( hello, goodbye, yes, no). Each goes everywhere with an i-pad using Google translate in order to communicate with each other.
But, again to keep this thread on topic, I am not sure they have QOBUZ in Spain as yet. :-)
And, if I had to have a Russian wife, the iPad would be PERFECT!

Spain and Poland are the next countries to be added by Qobuz later this year. Thinking about it, it is odd that they didn't add Ireland when they brought the service to the UK. For obvious reasons that is the usual thing to do concerning product or service distribution.
Edit: It now seems from Lone Arranger that they are supplying IE.
Here's a reply from Qobuz in response to my request for service in the US.
Qobuz is currently only open in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, NL, Belgium, Luxembourg Ireland.
Qobuz is really sorry you cannot find our service in your country.
Although, you should know our International developpement is growing, we might open soon in your country ! :-)

Considering the route that you took to disguise your country of origin it seems that Qobuz have become rather sophisticated in spotting it .
Still thanks for posting their response which adds a couple of countries to my to my knowledge of who they supply.
I have tried a VPN with server in either France or Italy but always get the same result. Everything starts out in French or Italian but when I click on either Sublime service the result is the same,"The site you are looking for does not exist ". The normal trial services will go through.
If you managed to get the French or Italian introductory pages up then it could just be that there is some kind of temporary access problem to the subscription page for Sublime+ in those countries. Try again tomorrow.
PS; wouldn't it be best for you to try for the UK service and get it in English? The UK Sublime+ subscription page is certainly working as I just accessed it.
Ah Ha, I am finally aboard. What a job just to spend my own money, and a lot of it; over $400/yr using the PayPal exchange.
Success came after realizing I was still using an old sign in that I had created last year when doing a 15 day trial. That sign in showed clearly my location in the US.
After creating a new sign in,using my iPad VPN switched to Germany, everything else was a piece of cake. I am currently stuck with the Qobuz Desktop in German however the browser player in Chrome and Google Translate is an acceptable work around until I can get customer service to switch my language preference.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
That said, no weekend trip to Paris for you! ;-)
Keep us posted on your experience, please
Congratulations! It's nice to know that there are multiple options available. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the service regarding all aspects - depth of catalog (both by genre and also resolution), user interface, and sound quality. Please keep us posted.
Bravo! And Congrats!!
Well done. However there is no language preference as Ivan303 knows well. The language that you get is related to the service that you subscribe to. You have subscribed to the German service so time to brush up your German.
