and he didn't like it at all vs. his Sony.
Disbeliever recently said that he preferred his Sony to some expensive dCS equipment but has not said that he has heard the Marantz SA-10. The comment was part of an exchange he and I enjoyed about the filters in the Marantz machine ( based solely upon reports, not experience). Maybe that's where your impression came from?
to his recent post.
It's better than anything...
Except being in Love, at least as I understand it.
Thanks to Bob Dorough.
Disbeliever has years of posts criticizing Marantz's reference series SACD players. I was just anticipating the next post.
My 28 year old modified Marantz CD94 is still working ,however I sold it some 3/4 years ago. A friend is still using again modified the equivalent Philips 960 . The only Marantz I criticized was the SA7-S1,sold after a 700 hour burn in. I have not auditioned the latest SA-10.
Thank you all for the clarification. I remain somewhat interested in the SA10. I recently bought an SA14, Although there have been some negative comments about that unit on this forum, I am pretty happy with it. Although in general it is not as exciting as my vinyl setup, on some SACD's it sounds really excellent to my ears, and on CD's it is a considerable improvement over my previous Onkyo CD player. I can't help wondering if the SA10 would be a worthwhile further improvement. It would have to be a major one to justify the price.
I will have a listen to the SA-10 shortly but expect it will be difficult to get a home demo. As for modifications on Marantz CD94 & Philips 960 they were very extensive amounting to a complete rebuild of both digital & analogue sections, these players were suitable for upgrading, whilst quite good as standard, the mods transformed them into top notch RB players.
No chance of a home demo according to one of the main dealers in UK as Marantz are pretty much making them to order. It is not a Limited Edition per se but production is limited to those who actually want to buy one, "Deposit up-front please". This tells me absolutely that the SA-10S1 is very much a flagship Loss Leader. Understandable when you look at the quality of Design & Engineering not to mention the up-front years of R & D.
As a user of dCS equipment the contrasts could not be starker. My bet is a profitable SA1-10S1 would come in around the £20/25k mark if it was made by dCS. Luckily it isn't.
He hasn't been kind to my "obese" SA-7S1. :)
This is a public service announcement . . . WITH GUITARS!!!
"and he didn't like it at all vs. his Sony."
I can't find the original post from Disbeliever asserting this. Can you quote it?
I think Disbeliever is only interested in multichannel; is that the reason he prefers the Sony?
Did he even listen to the Marantz?
