Elaine and Ellerine are in the house.....
Come and collect Emmy. The corpse is still warm.

The new TSDX + DAC2X combo, even if they are barely half an hour out of the box leaves the XDS1 for dead.
Dead. Murdered and mutilated beyond all recognition.
Come and take the corpse away....
The new combo is everything people have always wanted in the xds1 but felt silly to ask.
Perhaps having the transport and dac in the same chassis require a lot of heavy duty band aids. Whatever they did, it appears to have shackled the xds1's ability to present music with all their wholesomeness.
At first I thought it'll be just adding the dsd streaming over USB, and maybe, just maybe, it will be a step back, if there's going to be a fibre optic cable bouncing digital data between 2 separate components. Certainly, the monetary reason was a big factor for my decision to go for the upgrade. The dealer here allow us to return the xds1 with no penalty. Just a top up of the sum equal to the difference between the combo and xds1. I thought I should go for it as soon as possible, in case the returned xds1 sets piled up too high. Each XDS1 taken back by the dealer must find a buyer. When too many around, the price diff customers pay to trade in will not be the same.
But I was not prepared to hear such a level of improvements as this.....
I always have this feeling I made a mistake buying the xds1.
After running in for the longest time, the sound is still lean, and always seem to be layered with some metallic sounding sheen over the entire sonic landscape. The top octaves seem to get chopped off, frequency extension suddenly stopped half way, robbing ambience off some of their naturalness.
It seems like they found a way to get around this problem, but only by separating the 2 sections into separate chassis.
We must be listening to different units. My XDS1 sounds anything but lean, and I haven't noticed any of the "metallic sounding sheen" you mention. I'm hanging onto my XDS1 for the time being. I will resist this "upgradeitis" and spend my money on something else.
Enjoy to the fullest Jerome

.
Excellent post. I'm totally surprised at the margin of improvement you are reporting. Totally!

All owners reported that same thing. They are asking me to check with Rashid how it would so.....
Last 1 set left.
Kelly, if you are reading this, better hurry up.
The dealer must be very happy now.....
The focus has now shifted to choice of fibre optic cable that runs between the transport and the dac.
Anyone has any nice recommendation?
TIA!
