Follow Ups:
With HD storage now @ $1 per gigabyte, peer-to-peer storage, high bandwidth widely available (> 150 million households worldwide this year), I am starting to wonder if blu-ray or HD-DVD will really fly with consumers. I'll definitely think twice before buying that technology...Best
Oh yes, it'll fly. There's a pent-up demand for HDTV movies. Hollywood is salivating over the chance to sell everyone *another* copy of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.The other applications (e.g. archival storage) will come along for the ride.
So the 200 million households who will have a DVD player by then will want to buy a new player to benefit from higher resolution movies?
Maybe so, but I think by that time on-demand HDTV services will be widely available, at a much cheaper costI can see great applications for it in gaming, interactive content, etc, and of course high resolution audio, but not really in movies. While I was enthusiastic about blu ray a few months ago, I'm slightly sceptical at this point.
I hope you are right, though :)

Certainly it won't be the only way of getting HDTV, just as DVD is not the only way of getting SDTV.
