IC304. Rather than fit a largish regulator, why not try the LT1761 in a surface mount package, although the pins are different. You can order on the web at a price which is just over $1. The noise is very low.I have now learnt from experimentation that it is not just the regulator, but the decoupling cap which is equally important. 100-150 uf OSCON SG 'kills' most of the in situ noise. Don't just read the static spec.

Thanks... I will replace both regulators anyway... it will not hurt to imporve the noise floor in general.WRT Decoupling caps, I first tried Sanyo oscons and they were good, but then changed to Blackgates Ns and NXs and they were better.
I have to say that the results with all James and Audiocom changes have brought about significant improvements. The superclock II so far has been the greatest improvement so far.
cheers

OSCONs are better for the digital sections. When you replace a compenent, the audible changes are dependent on the rest of your system as well as the mod itself. That is why some of us are cautious.I have been trying out the Tent clock with different power supplies. Believe it or not, I am having specially made XOs with excellent specification for about $10 each; 25 ppm and better than 45/55 symmetry. You can get any frequency you like. Even the Tent modules are only $27 and the complete clock for $129!

That sounds interesting... I would be very curious to see what you find if you compared your clock with a superclock. That seems to be the only way to find out... all else is merely speculation.I am aware of what is involved with judging the efficacy of changes in a dynamic even fluid situation... I did try oscons throughout the digital section then changed them to Blackgates. I found the blackgates to be more dynamic.
Maybe one big difference bewteen your sonics and mine is that you seem to base judgements on CD playback. This is affected by the setting of the filter types also.I have based mine on SACD mostly, less on CD.
In comparing sonics, I have pitched the SCD777 against the dCS 972/954 combo, upsampled to 24/192 and SACD. The SACD playback on the dCS compares with the the 777 but 24/192 is much better in my system.
But then I am having the dCS upgraded. Will get it back tomorrow!
