That must have been one expensive video :-)
In the Spring of 1986, Falco may have been the first Caucasian to take a rap song ("Rock Me Amadeus") to #1. But in the Fall, it was really the Beastie Boys' Licensed To Ill which was hip hop's breakthrough out of the city, and into the rest of America...and beyond. Its influence cannot be overstated.
I happened to be a high school sophomore, when it hit the mainstream. In our courtyard, the south walkway was mostly enclosed. Kids had their boomboxes, and did their dance routines to Run DMC, Beastie Boys, and Salt N Pepa.
And don't forget; while Rick Rubin was melding rock and rap, he also honed-in the punk-thrash of Slayer's iconic Reign In Blood. Slayer's Kerry King plays guitar on the Beastie Boys' "No Sleep Till Brooklyn."

Follow Ups:
When did Blondie do Rapture? Must have been early 80s. I don't think she was the first either... could be wrong.
I actually don't mind the Beasites. It is all too easy for geezers to sit back now and throw brickbats with impunity... context matters.

I did not know that!
Now that you mention it I can hear the similarities during the solo.
Thanks for sharing.
