I took your advice and bought Bang On A Can's - 'Music For Airports'. Very excellent indeed. I wish I was the one commissioned to play the vibraphone part. ;)
Follow Ups:
Yes, Sordidone has had some opportunities to be naughty....

Bombay Dub Orchestra!! Very cool
EST Viaticum, - jazz/rock hybrid fun

Both sides of the river, there is bacteria; there must be meaning behind the moaning, is this living?
lol looks like you've been spending lots like me. I have to tail it off for awhile for I have to purchase a new printer. :( But, I was happy to find color laser printers have really come down in price so it shouldn't set me back for too long. :)
Sordidman gone wild!!
I hear you, have to rest and enjoy for a while. The latest impression from a few friends as well as myself is that Mac Mini playback has improved playing Apple Lossless to the point of almost not discernable differences between the CD and file.
Listened to the Goran last night and was not so impressed..... Good luck with that printer!!
Have fun....

Like, for example, the new KAL album, "Radio Romanista." First slide
guitar I've heard on a Gypsy album, besides their first album, "KAL,"
s/t. I think you might like all four Besh O Drom albums also. And, of
course, every human being should be required to listen to all five
Fanfare Ciocarlia albums. Remarkable stuff. Regards,
J.R.
Yeah,
I also got the "We Are the Shepherds" by ~ O.M.F.O. and was suitably unimpressed. Some of this stuff doesn't hold a candle to Balkan Beat Box, - which is more fun and playful, and modern, - IMO; albeit less authentic.
I'll check out your other suggestions.
Thanks,

I've had "Shopping" since the early 80s - if I remember that right,- or that as a 3 song, 12" EP back in the old days. I got it with Art of Noise back then, and really liked it....
I should buy it again.
Thanks for reminding me of that one!!

I met Ben after he moved from Liverpool to Brighton following Rob Kelloch with whom he had a band. Rob's girlfriend had started at the university so they all move down.
The boys formed a band called Amazorblades who played at punk speed but had Stuff Smith numbers in their set.
They used to hang out a lot at my house.
Ben knows more and can play more music than any other person I have met.
I still keep in touch with Ben although the last time he was in Oz was... 2003... 2004... as part of Billy Bragg's Blokes.
