So I need help with this one please. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 800 headphones and a Mytek Brooklyn DAC Plus on the way. The Senns and the Brooklyn respectively have balanced inputs and outputs but at present I have only an unbalanced cable on the Senns. I have been looking at cables for some IEM's I have so I have a few ideas. I like Litz wire. I don't want to spend a lot of money but I am willing to spend enough (I hope) to get cables worthy of the Senns and Brooklyn DAC.The Brooklyn has 2 phono jacks for balanced.

You probably need to buy an adapter. Mytek sells one, but it's absurdly expensive.

You can fabricate one yourself. Here is the wiring information:

Good luck,

If it were me I would first get a 2 phono jack to 4 pin female XLR adaptor made. No big sweat to do. The cable linking the connectors need only be a few centimetres long. I had one made for 2 x 3 pin female XLR to 4 pin female XLR so I can drive my HD 600s balanced. That will then give you a lot of choices for balanced cable including a Sennheiser HD800 one ( which has the most elegant looking XLR connector).
As for aftermarket cables then there is no guarantee at all that any will be better than the original supplied. Unless you have direct and reasonably lengthy experience of an alternative then all is down to serendipity. You may as well pick with a pin.
NB: Sennheiser cables for the high end models are way better than they used to be and I am sceptical about many of the aftermarket alternatives.

Thanks for the input. Your information on the factory Sennheiser cables is especially helpful. I have been looking at aftermarket cables for quite a while and am still quite hesitant to select one.
I have the older HD800 model that comes with only one cable and it not a balanced cable. It has a TRS phono plug only.

One of the great things about Sennheiser is that their headphones' modular construction means that virtually all parts are replaceable and that various parts from within a type series are interchangeable. So, for example, my HD600 from the 1990s is fitted with the balanced cable for the later HD650 and that cable was purchased in 2018. So I have little doubt that replacement cables for the current HD800 and even the HD800S will fit your pair.

I know. :) I was responding to your suggestion to get a 2 phono jack to 4 pin female XLR adapter made. :)
If you don't mind ordering from the UK the linked company are superb. They mainly supply studios or live tours but are happy to deal with the general public. The cost of my own adaptor for balanced use that they custom made was (if I remember correctly) the equivalent of around $20-$25. It will be a small package so I don't think adding shipping will be too much.
email them with your needs. You will probably need to give them the pin or tip and ring in and out count. If you need any help on this let me know.
Best Wishes

I bought a Draug 3 cable form Trevor, at Norne audeio had the Draug 2 for a couple of years previously and found great value in both of them. The cable's are more flexable and do not kink. Many options as to construction and length.
