Shure SE 115, Klipsch S4 or ?
Follow Ups:
I like my SE-115, I am using them with a Sansa Clip. They have a nice full range sound with good but not overblown bass. I find the best sound is with the foam eartips, you have to roll the foam between you fingers before inserting into your ear, which takes a few seconds longer than using earbuds, but the bass/midrange is really nice. The high frequencies are fine, they may be slightly rolled off but it's a really good, warm balance across the whole range of frequencies. The Clip has an output impedance of 16 Ohms, which matches the SE-115 impedance. If the Ipod had a different output impedance than 16 Ohms, it may affect the sound to some degree, but certainly Shure designed their IEM's with the ipod in mind as one of the sources.

Those are in-ear monitors. They go deeper into the ear canal than earbuds. Advantages: Noise isolation, potentially better bass response. Disadvantages: Comfort, blocking out sounds in the environment that you need to hear.
I have some Yuin PK-1 earbuds that were about $75. They are MUCH better than the Apple earbuds. I tried some highly regarded Etymotic in-ear-monitors and could never wear them for more than a few minutes because they were uncomfortable for me. And the cable was microphonic--i.e., I heard banging noises from the cable as it bounced on my shirt while I walked around with the Ety's inserted.
Apple EAR BUDS are pretty bad, and iem's are way too expensive. I have been using Altec Lansing Muzx and they are awesome!

It's good you've made the distinction because I also dislike IEM's from a comfort standpoint. I own a set of Shure IEM's but I gave up on wearing them after one or two tries. I would greatly prefer to wear earbuds but I don't own any. However, I have heard good things about Yuin earbuds.

I have used in ear monitors regularly over the last few years, starting with Sennheiser Cx300s, then going to Ultimate Ears Superfi 3 (?) and currently Etymotic Hf5s.
I must admit that I was unable to wear many of them for long periods, or to get them fitted correctly in a consistent manner. However, I stumped up the cash and got a set of custom moulds for the Etys and these have made a big difference. The custom moulds fit comfortably and consistently and allow me to use the IEMs for longer periods. I can now use these without irritation for my 1 hour (each way) commute to and from work. I only use the Etys for the commute. At home I prefer my Denon AH-D2000 because they isolate enough background sound (usually the TV), but they are easier to remove when other family members want to talk with me.

I have the Yuin PK2, not the PK1 (which I haven't heard, costs twice as much, and which requires an amp for ipod use).
Keep an eye out on Amazon Gold Box deals. Last year I picked up UE triple Fi 10 for 94.00 They are super IEM
Skullcandy are the best because they have the best warranty. they replace them for life and more.
skullcandy warranty
by all accounts at one time the best...
This is what I would recommend for under $100.
Etys made for ipod just buy them tonite. Their only uncomfortable to you adapt. Then there more comfortable then anything else. There a hassle to plug in and out. I use my dt150 for shorter uses. You can lay on them. The coolest thing other then they are best sound you will ever hear with a ipod is the supa low noise floor. They are just so immersive. No matter how quiet you think it is where you are. Its noisy by caparison when you plug in. I plug them in my headphone amp ,laptop. They crap all over the stax nova classic or what ever they where. They where thin, small, fragile, bright and distant compared to my Etty's. Perhaps there is competition now but at the street price from ebay they are a total bargain. I have had them for 3 years now still going even though I am not a big user of them. When I travel then I am.You goter buy them. Read the instructions a lot be patient.
