and to be fair, with so many great choices out there it is all but impossible not blow smoke. Few, if any, have heard them all.
So far my favorite set of cans is the Focal Spirit Classic. Not particularly comfortable, plenty of detail but the tonal colors are just unparalleled.
But I haven't heard any of the higher end sony headphones.

He specifically mentioned this model. But because it's not a very popular model among audiophiles at this point in time, very few of us have had access to an audition.
I've read mixed reviews.
All audio equipment has "mixed" reviews! YMMV - as everyone says!

But for some reason, other headphones with mixed reviews have risen in popularity while Sony's headphones have not - or, at least not outside of pro sound circles. Audiophiles seem to have their own peculiar set of standards.Audiophiles can also be a funny bunch. They sometimes like to play "Monkey see Monkey do" a bit too much...
I try to keep my ears and mind open.

I didn't notice he was the original poster. I thought he was a reply to the original post suggesting the sony headphones.
