Obviously, I haven't tried EVERY headphone, or even many. However, I found that the Sennheiser HD600 and 650 gripped by temples and TMJ so tighly that it was excruciating to wear them for long. I got AKG K702 phones to replace them. They don't squeeze my jaw, they are lighter, and the foam earpads breathe. Some people are bothered by plastic bumps inside the headband--I don't even notice them, and I'm bald.
If I have to watch TV in off-hours so as to not wake people up, I use Sennheiser PK100 v.2 phones. They are VERY light. The earpieces are small enough that you can recline in a chair without bumping the earpads. They have very clear sound, decent bass (but a little too much midbass) and are an easy load for a headphone jack.
BTW, I couldn't tolerate putting in-ear-monitors in my ear canals for more than a couple of minutes, so I got Yuin PK2 earbuds for iphone/ipod use. Good value for the money.
Follow Ups:
Contrary to your experience I find the HD600s very comfortable.
But I expect it depends on the shape of the skull and the duration of the listening.
They are very comfortable, but tend to overheat my ears in summer after maybe 1 - 2 hours.
Cheers,
John K
I also think the HD600's feel very comfortable. I might listen to these when I lie down to go to sleep...
