Just got a pair of D7000's and noticed the label on the back that says 'serial number' is blacked out.
I called Denon in New Jersey and they said their cans didn't have serial numbers.
Interesting, I could have sworn my D5000's from a few years ago did, but maybe not.

Couldn't find one on the cans but on the bottom of the nice presentation box there are many numbers including a serial number. There are also three barcodes for Europe, Japan and North America. Also, made in China.

Are there any American made cans?

But not in large numbers.
Grado. I think they're all made in Brooklyn. They maybe have 20 employees and do a lot of business. I like their sound. There are quite a few dealers in the U.S. so auditioning before you buy is usually possible with many models to choose from.

SR and RS series for sure, but I'm not sure about the others in the Grado line.
