Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I use these with my Sansa Clip. They match the output impedance of the Clip (16 Ohms) and have a good full-range response with nice warm midrange and quite sufficient bass without overdoing it.
Etymotic ER6i for a small lightweight IEM, for not too much money. I use a pair with an iPod Nano for working out.
Not as accurate as my UE-10pros, but easier to use, store etc. and the cable is much lighter and less microphone when moving.
Really the sound quality of the Clip isn't bad -- MUCH better than my smartphone! Most of my mobile listening is on public transit, so ambient noise is a problem. I hate earbuds, so I'm reduced to using Sennheiser noise-cancelling headphones -- PCX580's I think.
I'd recommend IEM's if you don't mind sticking things in your ears. The JH line sound superb.
hope this helps

The Grado SR60, SR80 and SR125 work well with MP3 players.
suit me fine. They have good sound, isolation and are comfortable. On a plane if I need need more ambient sound removal, I use Bose Quiet Comfort 2. At home I use my Senn HD-600 with an amp. Each is good for its situation, but the earbuds are used most often.
I don't think they are the last word in sound quality (rolled off on top) but they are excellent for ANY activity. With the single cord and one piece design they never tangle and are quick on/off.
used those for years with various iPods. FWIW...I don't like buds or IEM's due to their invasive nature and sanitary issues. IF you really want good buds, the Yuins are supposed to be tops.
My UE triple Fi 10 IEWM are super have everything I want in a IEM great balanced and super sounding.
Using Koss KSC 75 on my clip for years
For earbuds or portable headphones check out the Yuin line of products. The Grado iGrado Black would also be a good choice in portable headphones. The Sennheiser Adidas PMX series earbuds are great for the active person.
