Anyone have any experience/thoughts about this amp? I've seen absolutely
nothing negative about the unit, but I would have concerns about the
limited number of clicks on the attenuator.
I'm considering purchasing the unit as a ss compliment to my much loved
Singlepower PPX3 (6cg7 version).

I've had this unit for nearly a week, powering AKG K702 headphones to lusten to CDs (Marantz CD5004). It seems solidly built, and I am very pleased with the sound quality. Compared to my previous amp (Headroom MicroAmp), this one is more detailed, smoother highs, more bass extension, and not at all congested during complex passages of classical music. It has been playing 24/7 for break-in (as recommended by a few reviewers), and IMO it's improved over the 80+ hours it's been running. I think it's well-priced for what it does.`FYI, I bought it by mail order from an authorized dealer, HiFi Heaven, in Wisconsin, and they were great to deal with.
The only quibble is that the unit has unlabeled output jacks for low- and high-impedance headphones, and the manual reverses which is which--but anybody could figure that out in 10 seconds of comparative listening.
(full disclosure: I have never dealt with them before and have no financial interest in any audio dealers or manufacturers).
I have the 160D version and have no complaints. I've only tried headphones for a few short bursts, but it sounded pretty solid. I don't know if this also applies to the non digital version, but mine has high and low headphones jacks. Maybe for people that have really sensitive headphones. Between the build quality, 24 click volume and high/low headphone outputs, there is just no way that you won't find the sound you're looking for.
"Idiocracy" had it all wrong. We'll be there way sooner then 500 years!
It's a very solid unit. Literally and figuratively. I think it rounds off the music slightly but it is way better than its price would suggest. You can get a better amp but you will probably have to spend a lot more. It is also in my opinion one of the best built amps I have seen.
24 steps on an attenuator isn't enough? Reading the reviews, it would seem that Burson designed this amp with enough gain to drive the most difficult headphones easily.

There was a review of this amp somewhere on the internet complaining that the attenuator didn't have enough steps and that the volume didn't actually increase right away when the knob was turned. It was later discovered (and noted in a follow-up) that the review unit was broken, and the problem was absent from a repaired unit.
