Are you asking about the hardware only, or the sound which reaches your ears, body and brain?
Because, the room makes a huge difference in the sound which we hear!
And, please define "musically-involving". I'm not sure what you mean. To me, the most musically-involving music reproduction is due to the performance and the recording, rather than only the playback system.

The vacuum tubes don't need to be encased in glass in outer space.
Future starships will have audio amplification located outside the controlled living quarters for extended duration in a cryo environment!
And on the holodeck, people could select any concert venue they wish, and even adjust the acoustics by simple voice commands (poquito mas basso, por favor). :)
