In all fairness before cassettes reel to reel was *the* commercial option to vinyl. But yeah, like cassettes the commercial product was mass produced by high speed transfers from copy tapes and they really weren't all that good. Not sure I would call it a PT Barnum deal though. They were marketed to audiophiles but as far as I know they were not misrepresented.
It's kind of funny and sad that these are now being confused as master tapes by folks buying from this particluar website. If folks like what they are getting that is awesome. But this is the reality of what those tapes really are.
