The only way you can get a 240 VAC gizmo to work on a 120 VAC circuit is with a transformer.
Note that your house does have 240 VAC, but would need a special circuit run from the panel.
Many stereo components will have an internal transformer that can be run in series or parallel with jumpers to make it suitable for either voltage.
I agree that the voltage being incorrect should have been reason to cancel the sale for a full refund.

The seller included a cheap 110V to 220V power converter.
assuming this is the 1999-2005 version.
Curious as to the type of converter that was supplied.
