I was running my Bluesound Node2i through Toslink to Schiit Modi DAC....Terrible pop when songs changed if not the same bit rate/Hz....Confirmed by Schiit that this will happen. Removed DAC and connected Node2i through RCA to Preamp.....PERFECTO! No pops what so ever. And I can't hear and difference from running it through outboard DAC.

Follow Ups:
Some DACs actually mute their outputs when switching format or sample rate to avoid pops. Some even use old school muting relays like the Luxman DA-06 I once owned. The relay clicking was a little annoying and that DAC didn't sound all that great anyway.Additionally, many software players include a feature to roll a few milliseconds of silence between tracks to avoid pops while the DAC gets it's bearings to handle a new format/sample rate.
Roon calls it Resync Delay. Others call it something else.
Glad you got it sorted out.

When you had it through the Modi were you getting POPS on song changes?

I didn't hear any pops when listening to internet radio but I took the Modi out of the system before I set up a NAS server. The Bifrost 2 multibit DAC I use with a Node 2i and NAS server doesn't pop between songs with different bitrates or sampling frequencies using SPDIF.

That was easy. I ran a Bluesound Node 2i through a Modi multibit DAC for a while but ended up just using the RCA outs of the Node. Sounds very good.
