General Asylum

I built the Dac 1 about a week ago. Building it was great and the manual with the unit is very well done.

I agree with you on your feeling about the sound quality except that in many ways this Dac is as good as what I have had on records. The depth, speed and overall easyness of the presentation is a joy. I did change the stock tube to a yugo and have already done the tweaks as sugested by another user of the DAC 1 under the digital gear heading of A Asylum.

I don't have any hum and have never noticed any. I do ground directly to a special ground outside of my window so that my amp preamp are on a seperate ground from that of the digital. I float the ground on the normal grounding wire of the preamp and amp and ground the amp chasis to a ground, again outside my window.

I have had a Enlightened Audio 7000 in my system for some time and while I think it is pretty good, the DAC 1 doesn't have any of the digital glare that is all to common, as we know.
