I built the Dac 1 about a week ago. Building it was great and the manual with the unit is very well done.I agree with you on your feeling about the sound quality except that in many ways this Dac is as good as what I have had on records. The depth, speed and overall easyness of the presentation is a joy. I did change the stock tube to a yugo and have already done the tweaks as sugested by another user of the DAC 1 under the digital gear heading of A Asylum.
I don't have any hum and have never noticed any. I do ground directly to a special ground outside of my window so that my amp preamp are on a seperate ground from that of the digital. I float the ground on the normal grounding wire of the preamp and amp and ground the amp chasis to a ground, again outside my window.
I have had a Enlightened Audio 7000 in my system for some time and while I think it is pretty good, the DAC 1 doesn't have any of the digital glare that is all to common, as we know.
Thank you for your reveiw.
John
