Maybe. Personally I'm mainly a Classical listener. As such I feel that I want the maximum resolution and transparency in general but especially for large-scale orchestral and choral works.
For me, Jazz, vocals, and most popular genre just don't require the same resolution. Accordingly I, probably many audiophiles, like the tube effects in those contexts.
Presently I'm using and enjoying a tube preamp, (my only "layer"), but it is a notoriously non-tubey sounding tube component.

I was happy enough with them while they were working. (I didn't have good luck with their longevity however.)
My amps and pre are ~55 years old. I get them checked & refurbed about every 15 years, mind you.
