As a seller you should get payment before you send the item. What do you care who they are? As a buyer it matters because you are sending out the $$$. Sellers are at little risk in my experience. Just make sure the payment is good before shipping. No funny business with payment. No I'll send you a bigger check from Nigeria, you deposit my check and send me the item and the difference. That one is a scam. I'm sure there are others.
Not necessarily true. If the buyer pays with a credit card or Paypal (and the latter is tied to the purchase of the item versus just sending you money), then it is pretty easy for the buyer to claim the unit was damaged, defective, misrepresented or the like. The payment service can then pull the payment back from you and leave you without the money. Further, you'll often not get your item back, or get back a different unit or yours with missing parts, etc.
In short, if one has a dishonest buyer, there are endless tricks they can play that will make your experience terrible. Over the years I've been pretty lucky with the modest amount of online selling and buying I've done for used gear, but there are some jerks and crooks out there.
Bingo! That is what worried me is payment by Paypal and then trying to pull one over after delivery. Like I said I always knew the person by posts on this forum when doing a transaction, it surprised me a non member could contact me. I did find him by his Agon username and messaged him through there where he confirmed he is the same person that contacted me through AA. Seemed a bit odd at first but he may be legit.
