NYC in the summer?
Who in their right mind would voluntarily put themselves in NYC in the summer?
If anyone wants to put on (or attend) a summer audio show in NYC it would be prudent to wait until October when the conditions are more hospitable. Those of you who have spent time in Manhattan during the height of the summer should know exactly what I'm talking about ;-)
Ahh, a helluva lot of people, and those of us who attended hifi shows in town know the shows held in Manhattan were well attended. If anything, they were too crowded.
My understanding is that the problem with having shows in Manhattan is the expense for companies/dealers, certainly not the weather. Guess shows don't generate enough biz to justify the expense and hassle.
Considering the hifi industry's current emphasis on gear priced for Trumpettes, perhaps shows should just be held in Davos from now on.
Then "a helluva lot of people" must not mind the stench of both human and animal excrement as it cooks in the sunlight on the hot asphalt streets and the baking concrete sidewalks, among other equally disgusting things.
The people with money and brains flee this NYC hell-hole in the summer and head for the Hamptons or the Adirondacks.
Only tourists looking to score a nice hotel room or Broadway show on the cheap and crazed audiophiles who desperately need their seasonal ration of industry bullshit are nuts enough to be in Manhattan during the summer months, that is unless they live in places like India. In that case, all bets are off ;-)
I'll spend my summers in the mountains or at the seashore, thank you.
There is a buzz or more exactly a roar in the air in Summer in Manhattan. It is music to our Manhattaners' ears. You are welcome to come and enjoy it.
If you were REALLY a New Yorker you'd know that the term is "Manhattanites".
In any case, enjoy Manhattan in the summer. You're probably used to it ;-)
I consider a Manhattanite as one who lives in Manhattan. A Manhattaner is someone involved in the extreme urbanism and enjoying the intensity that it offers. He is a New Yorker for whom extreme heat is part of life.
Will be back in three days
are all broke idiots. I always thought the best time to stay in town was when the geniuses with money split.
Because our apartment is undergoing renovation, we have been getting away during the week. Conversely, we've been spending more weekends in Manhattan this spring. It is less crowded and nice to enjoy.
Of course, if you don't like big city buzz anyway, don't bother.
