I did the band sound engineer thingy for a while. Met lots of hot chicks, but didn't have time to...
Who else here has "been there, done that" thingy?
a 'cover band' that covered a 'cover band' that covered James Brown and the Famous Flames.
Band members took all of the 'chicks', what few there were.
...60s High School pal and college roommate and his friend; one became a star, the other a Super Star. Pre-Fame we barnstormed Ohio and Michigan in our cars with a drum set hanging out the trunk.
I didn't have to do anything except both the above guys had convertibles which in those days had narrow back seats, non-existent trunks. I had a behemoth Chevy sedan and drove a lot.
I don't know where you were but at our gigs, definitely... "Chicks For Free".
You were a lucky guy. We had a 22 or 24 foot box truck to unload and reload, and it was FULL. Sure, lots of grunt work, but when everything was set up and working, it was, like, a totally excellent time, dude.
Stopping for hamburgers at 5 AM was my introduction to forgetting about the "normal" day/night mindset/thinking.
In hindsight, it would have been fun to be on the road with a major band, driving multiple 18 wheelers around the country. I know a guy who did that, and he's got some great stories.
And, yeah, "chicks for free", except that the sound guy was nearly invisible to them. :(
