Please tell me that's not your house.
Dean.
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
The pictures are after a big storm back in January with 60 mph winds. A pair of giant eucalyptus trees went down around the corner from us. In addition to the one house, the other tree hit the next door neighbor totaling his SUV and hitting the roof. Thankfully, the SUV saved them some damage.
BTW: The problem you had was real. The disk partition handling the image uploads had gotten full and I had to delete a bunch of old log files.
These houses are around the corner from us and I go by there every day or two. One house still has had not much done other than some temporary water proofing while the other one had the roof and tresses completely finished. It makes you wonder what insurance company each one has.

Based on some pool work photos you posted a while ago, it looked like your home is elevated up on a hill. Do you ever worry about mud slides and your place giving way after a long and steady downpour? Or is there enough solid ground around you to keep your home on a strong footing?
You're right about the hilltop. In fact we have 360 degree views from the mountains to the east to the ocean in the west.
The property started out as a citrus orchard in the 30s and has a more or less gentle slope. Most of it was then terraced off for the orchard with rock walls and steps between tiers. Then, in the late 60s or 70s, most of the orange trees were cut down and houses planted around it to where we have the last acre on the top.
We do have a couple of steep banks, more like cliffs, that go down to the street below, 20-30 feet. God knows why they let builders grade lots like that back then. For the most part, these are stable and composed mostly of granite or hard packed DG, but we do have some sloughing off in a few areas with heavy rain. The major problem is gophers eroding the banks.
We did have to replace a retaining wall in one area with a taller, better built keystone wall to catch the cast off and prevent it from landing on the road below. And we planted rosea ground cover that quickly spreads down the banks that holds the soil well. However, all of this is more of an annoyance that a problem as the house is quite far from the banks and built on solid rock.

I would love to have your 360-deg view.... not just for the view, but for a HAM radio antenna farm. Not sure if the neighbors would approve. ;-)Sounds like you're in a good spot. I'm not sure where you're located (Vista?) but I grew up in SoCal and remember orange groves before the Mission Viejo company started developing all over the place, around Irvine / El Toro / Mission Viejo area as I recall.
We actually lived in Vista for a year around '69 - '70 as Dad was stationed at Camp Pendleton just prior to retiring. We moved further north and as a kid I grew up in older parts of OC.
My first home that I bought was further out in Corona and the commute into OC was a killer even back then! I ended up renting the home out and getting an apartment near work.

Well, the neighbor's opinions wouldn't matter because there isn't any HOA and as the 'Fool of the Hill', I can do what I want.
We're in the old Vista area near Alta Vista Dr which winds above the hills around the city center.
It sounds like we had a similar childhood. My father was in the Marine Corps and typically returned to Camp Pendleton after various other vacations in S. Asia or transfers to NC and Northern Cal. In '69-'70, we lived in Thunder Hills and I was going the Vista High, small world.
After college, I lived in LA and OC for a while bouncing back to Vista a time or two and then finally in '91, my wife and I both realized that we had no ties to OC and could do our work anywhere, so we decided to move back here and love it.

Is it full again? Can't post a picture.

It works for me. The logs that were the problem would take years to be an issue again.
