"It is the second year running that sales of consumer ebooks - the biggest segment of the £538m ebook market, which fell 3% last year - have slumped as commuters, holidaymakers and leisure readers shelve digital editions in favour of good old fashioned print novels."
Digital is here to stay, but books are a fantastic, resilient, battery and virus-free, non-fragile, tactile technology. Long may they continue.
And vinyl.

Follow Ups:
I have mixed feelings about e-books.
On one hand, less paper means less polution and there's the instant gratification. I'm more likely to try a new author electronically than physically. That said, I prefer the tactile feel of a real book.
Part of the problem with e-books is the price. I would have thought they would be cheaper.

is the greatest thing since sliced bread. So many books in the palm of your hand, and most of them free at your local library.
My wife loves her Kindle, and the Kindle app on her iPad. She also loves the Kindle Owner's Lending Library. Maybe that's one of the reasons ebook sales are down. You can borrow. Just a thought.

...Vinyl is cool again - among the hipster crowd and so is carrying a paper book into Starbucks. It sets one apart from all those MacBooks. ;-)Personally, I'm hooked on ebooks for a lot of my reference material as well as magazine subscriptions. I'd hate having to carry several years of magazines with me, unless they all lived on my iPad..... which they do.

Full, scraggly beard and a hat?
Hipsters used to be, well, Hip, listening to Jazz, reading poetry, sporting goatees.
I heard the term on a local news story about gentrification, people were complaining that the "Hipsters" were moving in.
They didn't look too hip to me...
Good question. Maybe today's hipsters are just poser wannabe's. As in wannabe cool and hip like 'real' hipsters used to be. ;-)

I have the paperwhite and she has the regular kindle. I just checked and we have 1,898 books between us. Most of them are my wife's. We still get the odd paperback or hardcover.
We've probably given away or donated thousands of paperback or hardcover books over the decades. We like to read a lot.
As the article mentions, you still can't beat the hardcover's for kids, classic, or coffee table books.
I've been in the graphic arts for 35+ years and still project manage design and printing. I can talk about paper, fonts, presses, software with a passion. When you meet the authors, artists, photographer's and see all the work put into a finely crafted book, the electronic version isn't the same.
However, back to eBooks...
My wife likes that she can adjust the font size and style for ease of reading.
I love the word or reference look up feature. If there is a reference in context to another author's work or play in the book I am reading, I just hi-lite the phrase and look it up. (In the old days I used to keep a hard copy dictionary by my side.)
Whatever the pros and cons are for different people, the main thing is that people are reading. Akin to people on AA listening to music, no matter what the media.
Cheers!

The two used book stores are where I get my LP's , they go hand in hand.
I don't think I could ever give up my Kindle paperwhite.
Remember, it's all about the music.
I hate reading for too long on a screen.
Eyes are not designed to read from a screen.
Eyes are not designed to read from a screen.Agree! They were designed to read from stone tablets.

Cassettes seem like most logical choice, actually. Cheap, easy to use and great sound.
