|For Sale Ads|
Recently I posted a few items both on the Asylum Audio Trader and on usaudiomart.com. Much to my surprise there was a good deal of activity on the audiomart site, including two sales, and absolute silence from the Asylum site. Some of the inquiries, and one sale, came on usaudiomart's automatic cross listing with canuckaudiomart.
As these audiomart sites are also free and apparently quite effective, I would wonder whether the Asylum Bored might consider working out some kind of cooperative effort with them.
Just my $.02 after a bit of experience.
I am in classic mode and at the top of the page I see links to amp, speaker, critics, vinyl etc. But there is no link to water cooler or (whatever the place is called for off topic discussion) or a link to the buy and sell trades. Maybe people don't know about it?
I've sold a couple of items here over the years, but not many.
I've sold a lot more through US Audiomart.
I only use Audiogon anymore if I've had zero interest on these two sites for several months.
But I only buy from members that are known to me.
in keeping commercial activity off of the various boards for so many years.
One doesn't automatically think of AA as a 'commercial' site.
Also there seems to be a bit of confusion as to if and when one is allowed to announce or discuss placing an item for sale on 'Trader'.
I've successfully sold at least one item here. I think it was successful mostly because I required the buyer be, not just a registered inmate, but one who posts regularly. With no other protections provided by AA, I'd have few qualms either buying or selling from a regular posting inmate who has been here for years.
Not at all interested in buying from the commercial riff-raff currently clogging up the pages of 'Trader' taking advantage of the free forum to sell gear as a business.
I don't buy often, but I have bought here and it's my first stop, even for browsing.
Here is a breakdown as of this moment:
US Audio Mart listings: 4,759
AudiogoN equipment listings: 4,406
AudiogoN music listings: 2,447
AA listings: 1,057
Certainly more choices are available on the other sites. I do sell here and with success, however it takes longer. AudiogoN for more expensive items and eBay for non audio related items.
I looked at US Audio Mart and it does seem that they've grown somewhat over the last year or so. But, what I also noticed was that many of the ads are 6 months old or more and that a good percentage are dealer ads. The same goes for Audiogon, their dealer advertisers must get free or highly discounted ads.
We would probably do better if we did encourage more dealers to place their ads on the Asylum. There's no doubt that the more items, the more eyeballs you tend to get.
Hi guys, just wanted to mention that there is now a new game in town - AudioFlea.
My partner Carolyn and I purpose built AudioFlea from scratch for hifi and we have done some really unique things with it.
Rod I just sent you an email asking for your permission to post a launch announcement here at the 'asylum. :-)
We would love the opportunity to ask for reviews and feedback from audioasylum members.
Also Rod, I would love to explore ways that we can collaborate together. I love your site!
One idea is that we index audioasylum reviews, and when people search for items that have a review, we show an 'asylum logo and a link over to the review.
"Rod I just sent you an email asking for your permission to post a launch announcement here at the 'asylum. :-)"
Guessing you must have heard back with a positive response, 'cause your post above sure LOOKS like an 'announcement'.
Or are you just using the 'assumptive' technique?
I sold some pretty esoteric horns here on A.A. recently in less than 24hrs. and I have sold several other items over the years. I always post here first, then if it doesn't sell I put it on Audiogon.
Remember, it's all about the music.
was no traffic from AA listings.
I listed the same items, at the same prices, on AA, Agon, the Marts and Ebay. Prices ranged from 2 figures to high 3 figures.
Almost everything sold via Ebay. I did not receive -any- questions or inquiries from listing on AA.
Tieing in with another site to boost traffic would benefit everyone.
As if they don't exist.
As if no one's ever used one.
As if no one's ever heard of one.
But, there's sho nuff a category for receivers.

Yes there is, grey right column: Home Theater - Solid Sate - Tube.
I've had very good success with my listings over the past several months. I would be happy to pay a fee of some sort (for each listing) to help generate revenue for AA....it's a community after all.
which is no surprise coming from you.
I don't sell much but would gladly pay a fee to use the Trader for such.
OT - I will NEVER use Audiogon again.

I just sold two items, listing them both here and on usaudiomart. I was contacted first through usaudiomar (and both sales were successful)t, but subsequently buy a couple of asylum members.
My preference is to sell to someone on the asylum, but the responses were just a day or two behind.
I've bought and sold on Audio Asylum Trader. All positive experiences except for one inmate who shall go nameless. Agreed to purchase and never heard from him again. Besides that all good. I'd use it again.
Perhaps others who do not participate as a poster in Audio Asylum don't think about, or consider the Audio Asylum Trader to be a good way to sell audio gear, so outside traffic might be low. Also, while I like the layout of individual listings, the rest of the web layout is a bit lackluster and unusual to navigate vs. a more flashy web experience that inspires confidence.
Over the last six months I've sold six items
on AA; they ranged in price from $425 to $6k.

I find sometimes if I google an item for sale-
Random example- Merlin speakers-
The Marts- us and Canada- always come
Thru with stuff. Otherwise you can check
Ebay, aa, audiogon, etc individually and sometimes
I just don't want to check around. That's why I
However- I've never bought anything from
Either mart. No particular reason- just haven't.
Often in google- aa trader doesn't even come up
On the first page of search results.
In my experience sales results here have improved significantly over the last few years. I've bought and sold quite a lot here. Audiogon is still cock or the walk.
Very good luck on USA AudioMart. You get lowballers all over just ignore.
Seems like too many dealers now on Audiogon. Dealers means higher prices on used (my observation). Maybe just me? Hate the selling commission costs there too. Asylum just doesn't seem to have the traffic although I have had good luck here too. I look all the time here. I post on multiple sites "free" that is.
I used to sell on Audiogon years ago. Agon is still the #1
In recent years I have sold stuff here.
I do have to say free is a difficult method to use. Too many re-listings on A.A. of the same stuff month after month after month after month after month....
I personally think a $2 per listing charge would be better. Though the cost of collecting the money might make it a PITA.
Or, make the first listing free, and to repeat the listing $2!
The current A.A. setup for ads being relisted every few days by some folks is not very good.
I watch the A.A. ads.. and am disappointed by some folks who seem to use the listing in ways??? hard to explain, but a fee would clean out the acting up.
I think AA trader is as good as it can be and the relists are not a problem.Usually, the ads are from well established members and the prices reasonable to downward cheap. As a buyer I find Audiomart overpriced and Cannuckmart even more overpriced even counting the weak CAD. Audiogon , not to mention E-bay is almost always a cheaper place to buy than any of the Marts not to mention Craigslists were the sellers are totally out of touch with reality . Having said that, my buying days are over and I wish all the buyers and sellers best :)
