I'm feeling sentimental today. This forum came into being some 18 years ago in March. There were real people that made it happen and some are still hanging out here; shocking, I know there was an Internets in 1999 and people actually were online. Some have died, some were banished (can I get a big red "E"). Working on nearly 20 years now. petew? Bruce? Lets get a roll call for the old-timers.
Also, go Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Follow Ups:
Although I may have had another moniker earlier.
What a blast! I enjoy this site so much.
I've learned a lot and, hopefully, have contributed something worthwhile, too.
Been awhile, I must be getting old.

I signed on in 2000.
Been around a while too.
Not that I do a lot of posting, but I have been here quite some time. Hard to believe.
I think my first post was sometime in 2000.
Tempus fugit... and so did that system. Assembling a new one now to maximize fun factor.
Me thinks it was way back in 2001 when i built my wl laurel ll's and a couple bottlehead pre's.
Still got em!
lurked for maybe 6-9 months prior to registering in July 2000.it was what was happening then. had some enjoyable, interesting times.

on Mercer Island at a gathering that year. Such a great group and pretty cool to meet people face to face. You built your amazing room after that. Pretty neat stuff.
And don't forget, I still want one of those Studers.

My first post under my old monicker was November 1999. I recall that when I deleted it (another inmate got creepy abusive so I bailed out for a while) I had a very low inmate number - 137 or 437 something like that.
I was at rec.audio.tubes before that. I think a lot of the early folks here were refugees from the flame wars there.
.
My 1st post on AA was December 28, 2001. Same username but I cancelled the account then started it up again, so no history going back under my current driver username.
I don't stop by nearly as much anymore but am changing a few things, so just happen to be looking around today.

December 23, 1999. Geez, I was such a young guy then!
So much water over the dam since.
Funny when the Outside was nuked how many of those posters were never heard from in these here parts again.

But for those that spent most of their time Outside, audiophila nervosa was not much of a problem anymore. They had either settled or gotten too old to care anymore. ;)
Many people who helped make this place great.
Sadly either they got fed up, or were driven out.
This is no place for newbies...

Some of those early cats established one helluva great web site and I thank them for that.

Thanks for all the great years Rod! You built something really amazing for your friends and now it is literally larger than life. All hail Mothra! ðŸ˜
My profile says 2002, but that is because my moniker somehow got conflated with someone that had the same name but not the capital letter. So I had to re-enter stuff in 2002.

But I know I was posting on the MUG for quite a while before DrM became the mod and the forum was merged into AA.
That was in 2000 at your place in Kirkland. :)
If you have been here long enough, you have to remember Romy the Cat, and Mrs. Piggy.

I became committed to the Asylum via Bottlehead Forum in 2000. The inmates in these various Asylums reintroduced me to this fabulous hobby. Its had to believe it has been 17 years.

Came in looking for info on my a Rega CD player purchase. Found Classical Court and dwelled here for years. Never bought a Rega anything, but found a lot of knowledge and friendship.

Mostly I lurk around these days, but I check a number of forums here on a daily basis. What amazes me even more that nest year marks my 25th(!!!) year as a HiFi retailer. Hard to believe it has been so long.

I'm hangin' in but no longer able to enjoy my system's sonics due to hearing loss.
The "Join" date and the "Contributor Since" date are shown with each post.
Personally, in the context of your query, I don't think either date is useful or significant. What really drives this forum is posts, views, and the resultant advertising revenue. The fact that a couple dozen or so inmates have been here since the beginning of time is a nice testament to the asylum. But I regularly see posts by people who've been inmates since, say, 2003, and have maybe a couple of hundred posts. They're like the people who go to church on Christmas and Easter.
I've been here since 2005, with many thousands of posts (some actually useful) and views, so, hopefully, I've been doing my part to make this forum a success.

...I wasted about 3 years arguing on rec.audio-highend before I discovered Audio Asylum. Before that was TAN with my dial-up modem.
My daughter went to Gonzaga so I own part of the school.

TAN was the start of all of this internet stuff for me.
See ya. Dave
I do miss Bruce and petew. I know Bruce had some medical issues. Here's
hoping he's OK. He's one of the brighter individuals I've ever encountered.
He was sued, along with several others from his firm, by a former client in the last few years and the firm settled out for a very large sum. I am sure that was a very unpleasant stretch. Pete drops in once in a long while. Bruce was a wise voice and I miss his presence here.
My first post, under a different moniker (long and stupid story) was on April 11, 1999.
That was so long ago that I was using an AOL email address.
Happy listening,
Jim

Not even sure how I found the Asylum, but so glad I did! Don't post much, but visit daily and have learned and received so much help over the years.
Note to self - contribute, ya dummy!
You post more then I do ;)Plan on changing that...maybe...

Not as long as some of you guys and gals, but 14 years. Not too bad!
I don't post as much meaningful or informative stuff (reviews, etc.) as I used to--LOTS of life changes--so I don't know if my value as an inmate rates very high these days, but I've always liked this place a lot, so I stick around. Kinda like a fungus. :)
