all the best,
three Mac pieces here -- two are doorstops (MC-2100 and C-28, both dismal sounding pieces to my tastes); and one I use daily.
I am speaking strictly of what McIntosh has become, not what they once were.
all the best,
MC275 Tube Amp
C2500 Tube Preamp/Dac,
MC 6900 Int Amp,
D 150 Dac.
Great stuff all, I love hearing it.
Some of their speakers were fantastic but Expensive 20 years ago.
They've made a lot of stuff, I don't expect All of it is great!
There was a 300 wat Amp I used to lust after, hearing it numerous times in 2 different Stereo Stores, but wouldn't want it today.

After hearing that combination (actually with the gee-whiz metered 2105 flavor), I'm convinced they are dismal for any tastes. Despite that reality, you could get some decent money selling them.
I did enjoy, however, hearing a pair of 2301s driving Magnepan 3.7s at Sea Cliff a while back - after switching off the Cyclops Eyes.
I say Mac should provide one of their towels for every purchase. Not surprisingly, they once put on their website "blue meters are one of our core values". :)
Built like a Brick S@#*thouse. Sounds like one when used full range. Excels as subwoofer amp driving a pair of AR3a used as subs.
I also have a C28 / 2505 combo that looks great, needs restoration, but are increasing in value as they sit.
One of the best amplifiers I have owned (and heard) was a pair of MC30 that were rebuilt with all new, carefully chosen and close tolerance parts. Absolutely wonderful. I acquired them as part of an equipment lot purchase and had to sell the pr to make the deal work. I still regret the sale 15yrs later.... I sold them to a recording studio in Italy.
New stuff is quite good, but overpriced. Name, look, reputation and "lifestyle" marketing come at a price. That said, many who are unaware of high end audio brands ARE aware of McIntosh and for some it has become an aspiration brand. Condemn Mac for marketing to the hoi polloi but if it also increases awareness of the industry so much the better for all of us.
Who worked on your MC 30's? I have a pair with a C 20, all in very good shape, not restored yet.
and sense of aesthetics. :)

I confess Mac's "extroverted" styling has never appealed to me. Coupled with poor first generation SS sonics for those models.
I prefer the instrument gear quality, appearance and superior sonics of Audio Research and VTL components having used those brands for decades.
To each his own I guess. :)
Mikey tours Audio Research
I still have them.
"Despite that reality, you could get some decent money selling them."
i.e., just a small, backup insurance plan, don't you know?
The MR-67, though, is very respectable. No plans on selling that.
-- and I wouldn't mind picking up an MC-225 someday. Nicest sounding amp they ever made, as far as I am concerned.
all the best,
with that investment strategy for a dwindling market, i.e. old guys like us. :)
As for me, I've been enjoying what the market has done for my pre-tax investments over the past quarter. :)
I still have the McIntosh MA5100 integrated amplifier that I used in our master bedroom. Not that I'm complaining, but it serves its purpose well while listening to some late night jazz music on CBC FM station broadcast.
If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well
chrome spinners. Neither is my cup of tea. :)
The custom high-efficiency speakers I attained had Altec "Voice of the Theater" stickers on the sides..... Placed there by the previous owner..... Even though aside from the size and efficiency, there was nothing similar to actual "Voice of the Theater" speakers. (The woofer is Eminence, the tweeter is interchangeable, now with Seismic Audio.) The stickers were there "for show".... I personally didn't like the stickers and removed them.....
I guess visual effect is a part of this hobby..... I like "light shows" (Lava Lamps) personally......
