I'm asking because I get infolinks only on AA, and their ads always interfere with content.
Seriously, is this a part of the AA plan, or is it extraneous crap that I'm unlucky enough to get whenever I'm on this site?
Thanks!

As I wrote previously, I'm planning to send a check directly to Rod M, So. California. I'm pretty sure of that exact address. What's your problem?
:)

Huh?
If you're really serious, you could complete the transaction in a couple of minutes online. :)
Huh? Online?
:)
.
So y'all think you're gonna shame me into sending Rod 25 bucks? Yeah, well, I just might do that. I'm getting an envelope right now, and addressing it to:Rod M
So. CaliforniaIt should be there soon.
Speaking of which...
We went to Lichtenstein last summer, and I sent a "Happy Birthday" postcard to my son ON his birthday (even though he was standing right there as I did it - he didn't know what I was doing - hehehe). Six months later, it still hasn't arrived.

Blocking postal services and all. Did you put a stamp on the postcard or just tell them they were lucky to have you write on it?

It's a large country with complex infrastructure.

Hahahahahahahaha!!And ya know what?...
They actually still do that whole multiple rubber stamp thingy!

It was shortly after I first started seeing the infolinks ads that my computer was infected with the ransomware virus. That's a nasty one. I'm not going to pay $25 and trust that someone else will block those ads. Instead, I bought the full version of Malwarebytes (the free trial version won't protect you) and also installed adblock plus. I haven't seen any infolinks ads since.
I don't know how Infolinks is to blame. What did you click on?
Usually, it's emails that trick people.
-Rod
The Ransomware virus disguised itself as a verified Microsoft update. I clicked yes and in a split second all my programs were encrypted and I had 24 hours to pay them $500 or all my programs would be permanently encrypted. Nice people. Most pay the ransom. I refused. It had nothing to do with email. I never click on links in an email.
I contribute money on an annual basis, yet I was still getting the annoying infolinks ads. Must be the unique format which keeps us old-timers feeling warm and fuzzy.Adblocker took care of it.
But seriously... is $25 a year going to kill anyone especially if they derive enjoyment from the forum?

CRAP, indeed.

"E Burres Stigano?"
I do contribute to the site.
People come here, in some small part, to read my posts, and they learn from them (hopefully). I'm no John Curl or Earl Geddes or other heavyweight physicist, but, at least in my mind, people respect my insight and learn from it.
So, that's my contribution.
Maybe AA should pay me. lol
Tomservo, your thoughts?
:)
unfortunately.

Inmate51: I don't remember ever learning anything from your posts. They are mostly just snarky. Maybe that is not how you see yourself but that is the way I read them.

"E Burres Stigano?"
except the title -- well, nothin's perfect.
I really, truly meant to become a contributor, year after year. Hifi forums have come & gone; folks have moved to "social media" platforms -- but AA soldiers on, and I (at least) am glad it does!
Any small thing I can do to help ensure its viability seems like a good investment on my part (which isn't the least bit altruistic, but it's true!).
Plus, I got a yoyo -- and a baseball cap!
Both of which have pride of place(s) in the hifi loft.
all the best,
mrh

Really?

...at least as a contributor, I don't have to worry about the value of my posts :-)Plus I don't have to waste bandwidth complaining about ads.
And it helps keep the newsgroup going.

No one has an answer.
It'd be great if a Bored member would reply, so I'd know what's what.
:)
Personally, I'd click on the X box to get rid of it. Or you could become a Contributor.
I tried to find a way to stop those pop-up ones though and didn't have any luck. Either it's not an option or very hard to find.

would be the easiest thing to do.
After 8000+ posts one would think you might feel like sending the BORED a little money.
I know of no forum that thinks making posts relieves one of the need of contributing.
I "get it".
But any astute observer would recognize that the simple act of participating here helps to generate views and thus revenue via the ads.
I don't mind the standard/usual ads along the right side of the screen. I understand that they are a revenue source. That's all fine and good.
My question is specifically with regard to the infolinks ads which slide up on the bottom left or along the bottom.
:)
If the ads are floating into the reading space.. I think they are a malware attack.
At some point you may have acquired some malware which is an old whatever. So it needs certain types of sites to work.
...or kwicherbellyakin.
Donate or endure the ads. This is Rod's business.

https://alternate-dns.com/
Thanks, but I can't go there unless I know what that site is all about.
Safety, time of night, ...
:)
research DNS servers, dynamic name servers, usually they are default to your ISPs DNS servers, that allows the ip addresses to translate into names such as amazon.com and google.com
alternate dns ignores ad servers and malware servers.
good luck, check out a research paper on what a DNS server is, you can even setup it by device should you want to not mess with your router :)
I am jealous of your gigabit.
"alternate dns ignores ad servers and malware servers."
Ah-ha! This is key.
Thank you.
:)
you'll be surprised how much crap you don't see. aol.com is basically blank with that.
also install ghostery and adblock plus plugins if you are using the chrome browser or firefox.
there's still some ads, malware and virii that get through from many sites.
I tend to be a contributer here almost every year, no ads is worth it just as paying $10 for no ads on youtube is great as well.
you are welcome, good luck with your expensive DAC chips, LOL! See I was right :)
take care
