I find that news interesting, and good. But the article was limited to the UK market and didn't present a holistic view of music consumption trends worldwide including streaming services.
So in terms of 'tangible media', vinyl sales in the UK are up. OK. How does that compare to music distribution in general on a macro scale including streaming services? The vinyl trend may be up but I suspect it is still a niche drop in the bucket (and will continue to be) if you look at the bigger picture.

Yes, I believe the article was comparing vinyl against downloads but it is also a well known fact that downloads are down due to streaming services.
So my point is, I wonder where vinyl stands overall.... not just against downloads which we have known for years have given up market share to streaming services.
Including a bigger picture comparison of vinyl to music distribution as a whole would have been nice.
Vinyl sales may be up but I don't believe there's a true 'vinyl revival' going on out there. It's an attractive medium for hipsters and such but far from main stream, and will never be main stream again. It's cool for decorating ones walls and watching it spin on a platter. ;-)
Heck, even Crate and Barrel stores are pushing it for decorating one's house.
Just my 2-cents worth, of course.

All the mastering and pressing houses in the US have been backed up 6 months for the last 2 years. You can even buy LPs at Target. The period of the least LP production was about 1992-1993. LP sales have been on the rise since then.
Not so much as 'revival' as it really never went away.
I guess time will tell but relative to music distribution as a whole, I suspect that vinyl is still just a niche drop in the bucket. But hipsters are into it! ;-)
Even if vinyl remains a tiny niche, a healthy tiny niche would be nice.
