I am not in the market for a new amp but my friendly supplier was kind enough to borrow me one for a week to listen to.What is your experience with this amp, strenghts and weaknesses?
Regards
Siegfried
My sister purchased this integrated amp about a year ago. It is extremely well-built and flexible at its price point (I managed to get her a 20% discount to boot) and excels in a system consisting of the excellent Joseph Audio RM7si Signatures and the best-sounding CD changer in the world - the Cal Audio Cl-10 (now sadly discontinued).Werner is also quite familiar with this integrated from Marantz. Although, Hi-Fi Choice was less enamored than I was and reviewers of Audioreview.com, I believe using a fast, open and lucid speakers with a warm source is the key to extracting the best the PM-17 has to offer. Once my intractable sister buys appropriate/better stands for the Signatures, this system should elevate to better level of sonic performance.
I use a AudioLab 8000S together with B&W CDM7 speakers. I am very happy with the AudioLab but the Marantz seems to better it. With the Marantz the treble has more detail but still are very pleasant on the ear. The Bass on the Marantz seems less than on the AudioLab but again with more definition.
Hi,
I am interested in the NEW version of the Marantz PM-17 which is meant to go along with their new SACD player, the PM-17SA. Does anyone have any experience with this integrated? I cannot seem to find any dealers who carry it!Fred
