Toward what I was hoping was the end of my upgrade journey that has taken me almost a year and a whole new system, I have traversed from listener fatigue (I think you know it when you have it) to a *possible* case of listener boredom, although that is probably too strong a word. After the latest upgrade, a tube amp(!!), I find the sound non-fatiguing, but am left wondering if there is something missing. While I can now listen for extended periods, it's not that I look forward to it so much (neither do I avoid it). I just go. Music, no music (except when the neighbor's dogs are barking), I am ok either way. I have somewhat of the same feeling on my clock radio. BTW, I like music VERY much and have enjoyed it in the past, even on the fatiguing system.
I don't know what it will take, but I will try to fool around with speaker positioning and possibly cables. BTW, any recommendations on cables out there for this situation? Of course, I would rather stay on this side of bright/fatiguing.
I suppose I should also consider middle-age burnout/male menopause :-)
LISTEN'S BORDOM may be the right word to explain the syndorome of my SET amp system.
Because of ample even order harmonics, every notes of sound are very clear-cut and seemingly well defined. This attract a listner at first and can give very revealing and exciting session of hearing of music. Howerver, after 15 mimutes or so one can detects somting is wrong, sometiong is quite different from the live music. The things at firtst taken as rssolution becomes midiocre and matter of the fact. The expression taken at first as exqusite proves to be the result creted by the SET amp itselt, not by recording itself. That surely make him bored after a prolonged period of time depending on the musical experienc of a listenr. After all all the music sound the same
in an inaccurate musical reproduction system.
Hi Camile
What cables do you have?
What speakers?
Maybe your system is good enough that you are secure with it?
Terrible situation I know....I have to check out some 2A3 amps.

AQ Indigo with Maggie 3.6
ICs- RatShack Gold and DIY per Soundstage recipe (have tried Nordost Black Knight / Blue Heaven - not impressed). Am not sure cables make a LOT of difference (no flames please!), but am willing to try a FEW. I find it to be quite a pain and found I had to listen really hard to tell the diff between the four cables I have tried. I am sure there are differences, and would love to just buy a cable that is guaranteed to be 'good', at a reasonable price of course (up to $100/m).
I am probably being unreasonable - I really do think I have stereo fatigue (different from listener's fatigue :-)).
Maybe I'll just cool off for a few months (weeks?) and reenter the fray when I am ready.
Hi Camile
I understand Listener Boredom. I don't buy the tube crank that Silver offered though. I would much rather have all the detail than the bass hash stew that some other systems offer.I think it is kind of like building a new house, the stress just takes it's toll.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Alpha-core silver micropurl interconnects, and will now replace my siver streaks.
The Kimber 8TC seems to do a good job too.
Nothing made as big a difference as the pre-amp though.
The opera company has some tickets left.
