Taking the advice of some users here looks like I'm about to purchase a nice used Marantz.Quick question. What are the differences between the 2215 and the 2216 besides the obvious extra 1watt of power. Marantz made a ton of models in the 22XX series--why so many with not that big of wattage difference?
Also, being a less powerful model, anyone have quick advice on a good amp?---i'll probably need it but don't need anything too powerful.

Follow Ups:
A friend of mine had a Marantz receiver some 30 years back.I dont remember if it was 2015 or 2215.It was a fantastic amp.It produced with his huge Fisher speaker some great musical sound.I then bought the same speakers but instead of the 15 watter amp I bought the 40 watter thinking that that would be even better. But what a disappointment! It did not sound good at all. That little amp was amazing. It was better than even my Advent receiver, except in the phono.
Cheers

I've had both of these in the past- they were nice sounding. Good warm tone and decent FM. Makes a good basic system. I think the small differences in the #'s were like model years in cars. iirc, the 2215 was a little more chrome looking, then the 2216 had a darker dial, then there was a 2218 later on. There was always a teen model, a 20's something model, etc. The blue and red lights also look very good. I'd probably pay $40 if I wanted one, not sure of that market, tho.

I'm not sure about the 22xx line, but I have a 2015 that doesn't have a seperate preamp out like its larger cousins do.That said, I really find something special about these smaller, stripped down Marantzes. When paired with an efficient speaker they're capable of excellent dynamics and a very musical midrange that works very well with acoustic-based music and only slightly less so with rock. They would make a great match with a horn speaker in a smaller room, say maybe a Klipsch KG4, or some of the newer high-efficiency Infinitys etc.
There's a little roll-off at the extremes but it's more than made up for in musicality.

Thanks BillyBuck, for your tech experience and especially for giving me specific recommendations. Speakers were actually my next question and you answered that perfectly, excellent input. That said, I thought I was getting the 2215 and have read much about it here. Is the difference with the 2015 only that it doesn't have a seperate preamp out? I'm sorta new to this, in what situation would you want to do that anyways. Is the preamp out needed for the seperate amp (i thought the two were different)?
Thanks and any input is much appreciated!

and there are no pre-outs to use with a seperate power amp. It's a very nice sounding unit on it's own.
