There's nothing like a 'show' to reveal the true sound of audio equipment. You know, cramped rooms, hastily set-up equipment, a non-existent sweet spot, etc. etc.

Here's an idea-spend some money. Doesn't take much, because you can buy used, and resell for virtually the same price. That way, you'll be able to make comparisons in your own listening environment and give real-life reviews. There just might be a sonic difference to that worn-out crap you're listening to. Pretty simple, but perhaps doesn't work with the faux-intellectual approach you prefer to use.
