Two words:Digital Reverb.
Signal goes into an A/D converter, is digitized, effects applied, then sent out a D/A converter.
Now, try to tell me White Stripes doesn't use digital reverb. :-)

Follow Ups:
Heaven forbid a digital reverb should be used! OMG, the signal has been degraded! Oh my root! Hogwash!

One would have to assume that if the studio were using all tubed gear, they were probably running an old spring reverb too. Once again, this is just a guess, but it is a somewhat logical one. Either way, i really don't care and the answer's not going to change my life : ) Sean

No. Analog reverb, especially spring reverb, sucked. Even the most diehard analog recording person ran away from spring and plate reverb when digital reverb became available. Nobody - I mean NOBODY - uses spring reverb.
