I just got a Volksamp Aleph 30 power amp and am looking for a low-priced "temporary" preamp until I can decide on a more permanent match for the Aleph 30. Right now I'm using the preamp from my Rotel 985BX integrated. The Creek OBH-12 has been highly recommended. Some folks say there can be problems with speaker hum from passive preamps. Any thoughts? Any opinions as to whether the Creek and Aleph make a good match? Thanks.

Get yourself a good one and you'll want to keep it forever.
In my case, I bought a used Reference Line Mod. 2000. Works beautifully with my VTL's. I will never trade this little passive off. On the other hand, I might trade off my Audio Illusions Mod 3A that I have in another system, later on.
The question should be, will a passive match your source (which you didn't mention in your post).I just got a Creek myself, and it does quite well with an MSB DAC.
Oh, and ground loops are not a machine thing, they are a connector thing.
The person who told you this is full of what Oscar Meyer sells ( B O L O G N A )!!!!
I've never heard of hum originating from "passive" preamps. That hum is probably from a ground loop somewhere else in the system.
