well..i finished my tu-8300 in 2 nights, about 8-10 hours building time. This is my second elekit(tu-879) and as a experienced kit builder i must say that this and the previous kit are a very easy build and extremely well thought out and put together. I wouldnr hesistate to recommend it to a beginner..its really that easy and fun! In addition Victor is always very quick in his emails responses and supports his customers VERY well. I was very dissapointed to hear about his recent issues with elekit. Victor is a really nice guy who provides great products at a even better price! If you look on the elekit site you will see that he sells his amps at the same price that they sell them(how does he do that?)
Now lets talk about the sound. first impressions are very good, im about 20 hours in to break in and the amp is really opening up. i have owned other 300b based amsps(audio note, air tight, etc)and really dont detect any slowness or mushy character to the sound that is normally associated with these type amps. Very good placement of intruments and fleshes ou the individual aspects if that makes any sense...Let me know if you have any questions by email..or on the forum..
to sum it up great product...great price..thanks again Victor!!

Can TU-8300 use 12E1 tube, Hoe to mod it?
Pin out is practically the same as in EL34/KT88 tubes. This tube requires higher cuurent
Hi Marc and others!
Well I also finished my TU-8300!
Awesome kit! As others already said: "Well thought and absolutely something for beginners"
I never did soldering before, and it just took my to long evenings (8-10 hours) to complete it.
I was very scary while turning it on for the very first time. All those "Caution topics" in the testing routines list. But everything worked fine and I just had one problem. I didn't have any speakers. I threw my old "student diy made" ones away and didn't have the time yet to build new ones. I already have my new drivers and just plugged those in.
No bass, due to the missing cabin, but a very warm and clear mid's and hights. I'm looking very forward to start building my cornu spiral self made copies next days.
Marc, you mentiond aa "vcap mod" what is it andwhere can I find more information on that? Are there any other tweak you might recommend?
Once I'll have my final system I would like to add a thin wooden finish on top of the TU-8300 just to make it more "wife friendly" ;-)
Until then I'll be able to optimize some small things beforeplaying my whole music collection up and down...
vkung, thannk for giving people like me the change to get a tube amp and to become 20-25 at least for a few hours again ;-)
Sebastian
You should consider a pair of Telefunken 12AT7
Hi Viktor!
Well, I assume I just have to replace them?
Does V-Cap make no sense? I wasn't able to find any concrete Information on these in combination with the TU-8300.
By the way. Adding a headphone output to TU-8300, will this be a big task?
I just started building my new cornu spiral speakers and hopefully I'll be able to test the system next week....
Have a nice weekend!
Sebastian
There are 6 X 0.047 mfd caps. I prefer vcap than other caps.
If you add a headphone jack, the output is too high. It is very easy to burn your headphone.
Please look at this thread from Woo

Thanks
Victor
Well, greetings from Nanaimo to Vancouver ;-)
Thank ou for the fast reply.
Okay, I did some websearch.
Is there a differnce in sound regarding vcaps TFTF Series or CUTF Series?
Looking for Telefunken tubes I found some discussion on the web that their 12AT7 are not really that good as some others... If I might still try to get some,... which production decade should I choose?
Headphone, sure it would burn,...I'll have alook at the link you provided. Tahnks!
I guess I give my wife an additional amp ;-)
Thanks again!
Sebastian
CUTF is too expensive.. I think TFTF is the best fit.
For Telefunken 12AT7 $25.00 each, It is not bad at all
Hi Viktor,
well I did a mistake. I just immigrated to Canada and I needed a new audio system (Europe 230V - Canada 110V).
So I searched for a tubeamp and stumbled over TU-8300.
Your website didn't work properly those days on my ie8 and therefore I bought it at tubedepot.com in USA.
Just 2 days after I realized that you live in Vancouver :-(
Well, it doesn't matter. I finish the amp and it was really fun!
I know my self and if I don't spend a few more hours in improving the amp right now, I will never do it.
Which V-Caps do you have?
I just found a good offer here: http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_vcap_cutf.html
The ProAc look very nice!
I just decided to give that strange design of those spiral speakers a try. but I will use a TangBand instead of a Fostex driver.
Back to Telefunken. Do you know a resource in Canada?
Cheers!
Sebastian
But it seems like the prices in the basket are even lower at http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_vcap_cutf.html
Hello everyone..installed the vcap mod last week...a have to report a almost immediate increase in tranparecy and depth. These caps are really very good and i highly recomended. Next step is the potentiometer. I havnt decided if i want to go with a TKD, or maybe a precision stepped unit...i would love to hear any comments others have regarding thir mods, i also would like to replace the 12at7's... any opinions??? Ty,
Marc
Hi Marc!
Take a good look at this:
http://diyaudioprojects.com/Solid/DIY-Lightspeed-Passive-Attenuator/
I'm putting one in my TU-8300 as soon as I build it.... someday..... :(
Cheers!
ECC801S=12AT7 Telefunken West Germany is the best but too pricy
Siemen & Mullard is the best alternative..
tried mullard cv4024, british mil spec version of 12at7...very thin sounding with no bass or mids...very dissappiointed.
Telefunken 12AT7 is a better choice $18.00 per piece
Hi Victor,
Is there a good source for Tele 12AT7's at $18 apiece? Curious.....
Cheers,
Karl

Very good price $18.00
Hi everyone, My tu-8300 is also in its box, waiting... there are several things I would like to try on this amp, mainly part swapping (signal caps, the resistors in the signal path, rectifier diodes for schottky...) I am also waiting for a Light speed attenuator to replace the stock 50k pot. It would be great to share our experiences here on this forum.
Thanks for starting it Mark!
As for the “issue” with Elekit I really have no idea what has happened, but Victor is one of the best professionals I have ever dealt with, his attentiveness with the buyer is unbelievable, I really hope things get sorted out, It would be a shame for Elekit to lose such a great Rep.
BTW what manual was copied? And who did it? It would be good to alert fellow hobbiest on the hi-fi forums, of such scum!
Cheers to all,
Matias
Hi MatiasThank you for your Great Words. I am looking forward to your review and modification.
I am also looking forward to Karl's "Hazen Mod". This should be very beneficial to us.
Regarding the manual and my issue, I thank you for everyone's support. I am looking for a way to resolve it peacefully.
I hope this Elekit Forum is a platform for everyone to share their Elekit building and modification experience.
Thanks
Victor

Hi Marc,
Thx for the review!
Well, my TU-8300 still only exists as a manual and a box of parts, as I just got it a few days ago, but am very anxious to put it together and post my results, as well.
I have a tweek (or mod) that I'll comment on when I get the kit together, that applies to the use of EL34's. I wanna try it on my own amp kit b4 making comments.
Victor's support of the Elekit is absolutely STUNNING, btw!
Cheers,
Karl
Thank you for all your generous support for me. The issue is not what I expected to happen to me. But well, it happened. From now on I think I need to be more cautious. Thank you for letting me know someone out there copied my manual and claimed it as his own. No matter what, the truth is the truth. I don't like the dirty way of doing business. Anyway, Elekit is a good product. That is why I spent a lot of time to promote it, but...
well, too bad and too sad.
Victor
