Hi,
I have been playing with building and modifying Dynaco tube gear for years but one thing that has always bothered me about these mods. David Hafler or his designers were no dummies. They were very talented and knew what they were doing, IMHO.
Why is there an issue with the original RIAA values on the phono section? I know Joe Curcio(and others) has a mod for it but what exactly is wrong with the original? Using a totally different tube would account for that but using the original tubes should get the same result.
Thanks!
Follow Ups:
The only thing I really take issue with on the Dynaco PAS phono stage is the RIAA filter in a feedback loop, which is technically a good way to do it. In comparing to non-feedback RIAA designs, I've consistently preferred the latter, and that does not just apply to Dynaco.
There is nothing wrong with this RIAA, unless it's loaded with a
Si tape input.
It's very popular however to complain about it, some simulations has been done ( it's simulations not the real thing), but i have not seen
any measurement that shows significant problems.
Think about it, every one that sells a "new phono board" has to mention
some shortcomings with PC-6, it natural for a selling process.
As many may know, this matter is perpetuated well beyond this forum.
