I have a pair of Rogers 15ohm LS35a with haven't been played for many years. Yesterday I hooked them up in my home system and 1 voicecoil is rubbing. Turned them upside down and they were OK for a while then started rubbing again so the surrounds and spider have deteriorated. I also have in hand a pair of new original KEF110 drivers but I've been told they are not a drop in replacement as Rogers would dope the 110's to tune them for use in the LS35a.
Does anyone know if that is true? Has anyone everyone just replaced the original drivers with standard KEF110?
thanks
Brian

DIY - Done Right!
Brian,
From experience it pays to pay attention to the different B110s and the model you need to replace. KEF pretty much lays it out,

As you can see B110 doesn't describe much when it comes to replacing the woofer. You may also be interested in this discussion,

If you replace like with like--replacement works well.

Thanks for the links. That's helpful too.

I had a pair of these over twenty years ago.
Everyone wanted to make a DIY pair since it all LOOKED so simple and back in those days KEF was glad to sell you their drivers.
The story was, after many attempts to clone the LS3/5a, that the drivers were selected. This resulted in identical speakers which much to do with their excellent "imaging". I think I remember that certain crossover parts were adjusted to make each pair as similat as possible. Of course, all LS3/5a's were supposed to be the same, that was part os the BBC specification but still it alwaays makes sense to get consecutive serial numbers.
I took mine apart just to see that unbelievably conplex crossover. I was familiar with the B110 and I do not remember seeing anything had been done to the driver. The only think I remember being done to the T27 tweeter was the mesh cover which we were cautioned not to remove since the speaker had been voiced with the mesh and the speaker covers in place.
I suspect the drivers KEF offered for sale were the rejects from ROGERS, CHARTWELL, and KEF themselves.
Maybe somebody would have drivers that would work to bring them back to the BBC specs. I bet you will pay much money for such, though.
I admire that beautiful felt they used for diffraction control.
Best of luck.

The LS3-5A woofers and tweeters had specific "spec" numbers from KEF - SP1057 rings a bell somewhere (as does SP1003 - i think that was the woofer spec).
KEF did not sell the drivers individually that were spec'd for the LS3-5A. You could buy B-110's as a hobbyist, just not THOSE B110's.
