In Reply to: Which budget CD Changer: Onkyo DX-C390 or Marantz CC4300? posted by machani on September 22, 2004 at 13:44:09:
..... I nearly purchased the Marantz 4300 unmodded but it had a slight degree of congestion which led to an expensive, but highly successful mod.Unmodded it is good for non critical listening and was far better than an older Onkyo I had previously. John Marks was impressed with this changer also. It certainly has clarity and dynamics.
As for 5 discs vs 6 (which the older Onkyo took), I have not found that any problem. Some comment has been made at times about Marantz reliability but I've had that changer nearly 2 years now & no problems. Also none with their SACD player.
Not sure that this helps but that is my experience.

John,
Thanks to your suggestions, I received my Marantz CC4300 today. Out of the box is sounds more lively (dynamic), rich and warm (musical) compared to my Panasonic F87 (DVD-A/CD changer). It matches the Panasonic F87 in detail, but the tonality is probably on the warmer side of neutral - which is what I like. Soundstage is also better than the Panasonic. The Panasonic F87 will now be used only for DVD-A and HDCD and the Marantz CC4300 for redbook CD.
Cheers!

Thanks, John. "Clarity and dynamics" is exactly what I want!I will get the Marantz unless anyone has comments on the Onkyo C390.
Cheers!
