Could this be why, once the output stages after the dacs in most players are modified, I find they all start to sound pretty much the same?

Dear Larry,There is a "sameness" to all digital, almost regardless of how it is done, so if you listen to analogue normally, I would say you are pretty clolse to the mark here.

I dare say most who think digital is akin to analog, have never really heard analog.....but once you hear it, you never forget it, even if you live with an all digital system.
Dear Larry,Could not agree more, and in some ways good analogue is harder to to than good digital.
Again as in digital many questionable practices abound.
