Since you formerly used the 507, did you audition the 588 as part of your hunt, and if so, how did it compare to the 588?

Follow Ups:
Had the two units side by side, same interconnects, stock power cords, the cd-3 was the hands down winner, more transparent, more bloom, less digital sounding, and simply put the musicians in my room more than the 588. In fact, the cd-3 is so good that it will take a top notch sacd player playing sacd's to better its performance on plain red book cd's. This is unbelievably wonderful cd player.

I did briefly audition the 588 when I purchased my 507; I felt that the 588 bettered the 507 by a small margin. The 507 sounded "warmer" to me, at the expense of detail retrieval. The 588 was clearer and more detailed. However, I do not remember the differences to be of the same degree as when I compared the 507 to the ARC CD3.Let me emphasize that I did not do a direct comparison of the 588 and the ARC - my comments are based on evaluation accomplished on separate occasions.
