If burn-in doesn't help, also try playing around with different cables or EMI filters. Sometimes a product can either introduce or be vulnerable to other components in an existing system that were not originally problematic. I believe the Leak products paid close attention to shielding.
Worth a try economically at least before exploring a different Dac.

Follow Ups:
AES made a huge difference. More balanced but not as exciting. I think Shanling rigged the piece so it could offer a hot, popular sound plus a more balanced one.
Next fight is to get the ET3 and my phone BT'ing each other. My Android recognizes the ET3 but nothing happens.
Glad the AES is more to your liking. Great to have options.
