I've been told by owners of MHDT DACs that the USB input is not that good and many use a USB to SPDIF converter with the MHDT.
Any thoughts? I have a Schiit Eitr USB to SPDIF that I'm trying to decide to sell or keep after buying a MHDT Srockholm v2 (which is amazing).
Thanks
Follow Ups:
Did using the Schiit Eitr improve sound quality or not?
I admit i have not had time to try it-Finals grading
will try and report back
The Eitr seems to provide a bit more richer fuller sound that the USB into the MHDT
hard to do a A-B
FWIW, my MHDT Labs Orchid DAC did not benefit from an external USB-S/PDIF converter. I use USB input exclusively.
I come out of the pc re-clock the usb feed with an Uptone Audio REGEN then feed it to my Scott Nixon dac. The feed is now asynchronous but some days I question if it makes a difference in the sound. The usb goes from usb to I2S without using S/PDIF so it's pretty good. In your case it would pay to bypass usb and go to coaxial.
