Can anyone tell me how to reset the factory defaults on my Denon DVD-3930ci? I have looked in the manual, but I can't find any reference to it. The player is not reading the SACD layer of hybrid disks, and it is acting funny when it loads newer DVD-Audio disks. I expect that the laser is getting tired, but I want to try starting over from the factory default settings before I give up on my aging player.

Reset instructions are on p. 48 of your manual.
Wish me luck.

If a reset doesn't work, and you're feeling adventurous, you can purchase a new laser for your 3930ci on eBay for ~$20-$25 USD. There are some how-to videos on Youtube that can give you a pretty good idea of what to expect when you pop the lid and there are some discussions on various forums involving some who have done the job. I don't think any special tools are required.
The 3930ci is a nice machine... it may be repairable for a lot less than the expense of a new unit.
Let us know what happens...good luck!
If that doesn't work, I will just use it as it is until it won't play any disk. I have had bad luck with Denon. My DVD-5900 was an expensive boat anchor, and this one seems to be heading for the same fate.

I have a Denon 3910, plays like new, never a problem with it.
The reset procedure did nothing. I have (and have had) other players, and the Denons are by far the least reliable of the bunch. I will never own another one.

My Parts Connexion modded 3910 had the typical laser assembly issue. At the time, I sidelined it because repair was going to cost me about $400. However, I recently took it out of mothballs, and had it repaired for $200, including parts, and I am glad that I did. This, particularly in its modified iteration, is one helluva good-sounding player. I have a modded Oppo 105D for bluray play, but the music disc sound quality is about the same as the Denon. The mods to the Denon cost be about $1200 in 2006. The mods to the Oppo were about $2000.
