Just received my Quantum Cd Transport. Custom built by a very talented engineer in Romania. If you are familiar with the Shiga Clone Story, You will know that Tibi Vical Took the shiga clone design, and redesigned the circuit brd. as a proper digital circuit brd. Then started replacing parts with the best parts he could find, that improved the sound. He even made a bunch of mods to the CD Mechanical drive. The transport sounder wonderful. And he sells it as a Kit, and completed tested Brds.
He then designed and had manufactured a beautiful chassis, made a few more improvements on the circuit brd. and Cd Mechanics, and is offering it as a complete CD Transport, called the Quantum.
S/N 003 went to a person in the Netherlands I think. He said it compared to any $10K transport out there. I never heard a $10K transport, so I can't compare.
I received S/N 004. I got it with the upgrade to a Dueland cast copper capacitor, and I sent him a length of VH Audio's Pulsar 75 ohm solid silver center conductor coax, and a WBT silver female RCA , to put from the output of circuit brd to the chassis output.
Now for the sound. With what I was using for a transport, cymbals always sounded a little dull with my 300B amp. Not anymore. Cymbals now sound just right. Bass is fuller. Vocals are unbelievable. And a first for me, Brush's on a drum actually sound like brush's on a drum.I always thought that was the hardest thing to get to sound right on an audio system. But now I have it.
I've only listened for an hour so far. As soon as I have Some hours of listening behind me I will wright a better review. but for now if you are interested on a bargain of a CD Transport, do a search for Vical Audio. You won't regret.

Would you expect an non-descript name for a CD transport costing $3200. ?
(It got your attention though didn't it ?)
Am I wrong in thinking audiophiles loathe anything with the word Quantum in it's name or method of operation?
:-)
No you're absolutely correct , but who's to say that everyone who would be willing to spend this much on a transport really understands that there's more to building a great music system than just "throwing money at it".
I can think of any number of times I've been underwhelmed by music systems that were multiple the cost of my system. What's the old saying about judging a book by iIt's cover. For the most part I'm not so sure "Audiophiles" are that concerned with advertising copy.as they're not a group you have to go out of your way to interest them in this level of equipment.
Maybe I'm a dummy, But why would anyone be upset about the name Quantum?
This is a custom built Transport, and worth way more then the price.
I'm not rich, and this was a major purchase for me. I almost didn't get it because I really had to scrape my pennies together for some time. I built most of my system myself, and chose the designs carefully. And then built them with the best parts I could afford.
$3K may seem like a lot of money, but have you shopped lately for a dedicated transport? Good ones don't come cheap.
I just thought people would like to know about a new transport for 3K that has been compared to 10K units. I thought that is what this forum was for. I'm very sorry if I was mistaken.
He,he,,he........ I'm with you there, on the reasoning to be upset about what a product was
named !!! (It was Geoff whose wires "got crossed" over the name)..
I'm pretty sure there are several forum members here who are appreciative of your posting on this transport. I made the mistake of trying to "second guess" why it may have been named this. As the kids say these days "My Bad"
Quantum dots, Quantum Corp Electraclear, WA Quantum Chips, quantum tunneling, quantum teleportation, quantum superposition. Quantum Temple Bell. These products strike fear and loathing deep, deep into the hearts of audiophiles everywhere! Don't they?
;-)
Some are for real: Double slit experiment, Quantum entanglement

Quantum CD transport is real as well.
Thank you very much for your feedback, Anthony !
Regards,
Tibi
I don't doubt that it's an excellent CD Player but why the word Quantum? Is there some significance? Do you have a double slit inside the player? Perhaps you just like the word. I am the inventor of the Super Intelligent Chip (quantum), the Ultra Clever Clock (quantum) and the Quantum Temple Bell (Quantum), not to mention the Teleportation Tweak (yup, Quantum. Those are real quantum.
I'm an optoelectronic engineer who developed a strong passion for astrophysics and quantum mechanics. I know, each of these is on the other side of the physics, but are in very strong relation.
Few years back we started to develop a range of amplifiers:
quasar, pulsar and supernova. Each name represent a characteristic of the amplifier. I'll not boring you with the details.
On the digital side we had quark and now we work on gluon. Gluon is a dht dsd/pcm dac in three "colours" (versions), that will make the link between quantum and amplifiers.
Well this is a short and rough explanation for Quantum name.
On other side, in every transistor, diode, tube or passive electronic component lies a lot of quantum physics. Entire electronic is driven by quantum mechanics world. So, why not Quantum ?
Why are you interested in a name instead of what make Quantum different from other CD transports ?
Regards,
Tibi
The cd laser is quantum mechanical too. I'm just messing with you. Good luck with your endeavor.
Yes, lasers are most used in quantum mechanics because of the photon duality, wave/particle.
Thank you !
Regards,
Tibi
CD lasers are quantum wells: Quantum confinement in Two dimensions. My Super Intelligent chips use quantum dots which are examples of quantum confinement in three dimensions.
Thanks! for sharing- Anthony.
what other gear, including cabling, is in your system?
Your welcome fantja. Just wanted to let people know about a bargain of a transport.
To answer your question, my system is mostly , kinda, DIY. It starts with the Quantum. Wired from circuit brd. to female WBT Next Gen silver female RCA, with VH Audio's Pulsar, 75 ohm, silver conductor coax.
Then the digital cable is a meter in a half of the silver Pulsar cable with WBT Next Gen Silver Male RCA's.
To a Jolida Glass FX Tube DAC, that I replaced the capacitors with Silmic II's for the DAC section of the Power supply, and for the rail that feeds the Tube analog output brd. I used Mundorf Poly Tube Caps, mounted on top of the unit with wires fed through to power supply brd right under the caps. Rebuilt the tube output brd. with all Vishay Naked Z-Foil resistors. And stealth Caps for the output caps. And all WBT next Gen Silver female RCA's on input and output, with silver Pulsar coax replace internal wiring.
This is fed through VH Audio silver interconnects with WBT Next Gen Silver male RCA's, to a Tubelab Single ended 300B amp, that I built as two unit's. One the power amp, and the other, the power supply. The power supply is built with Mundorf Poly Tube Caps. No electrolytics. The amp is built with all Vishy Naked Z-Foil resistors. With custom made Naked S-Foil resistors for all that are over 1/4 watt. Internal wire is silver Pulsar coax, with WBT Next Gen Silver female RCA's. Speaker Binding posts are Eighman, on amp and speakers.
Speakers are Madisound BK-16's, that I did a few tricks to. Speaker wire is Clear days, Silver shotgun cables, also used for internal speaker wire. Power cords are VH Audio flavor one for the Transport and DAC, and Flavor two for the power amp, and the Crown sub woofer amp.
And two Bucket Subs.
They all sit on Mapleshades Brass footers on 4" maple blocks.
Well that's about it. Thanks for listening.
Thanks! for sharing- Anthony.

Sorry, I misspelled his name. It's Vicol Audio, at www.vicol-audio.ro
I bet that is very fine.
A little concerned on the basic model with him "firing" that transformer at the transport. Very strange.
I saw a price of 2999 Euros.
"No one sings me lullabyes
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky...."
Yes. But first 20 are 2499 euros, and I thing free shipping.
What is the cost of the completed unit? NOT listed as far as I can see.I see it 2900 Euro.
