I've got a bottlehead foreplay preamp I'm using (and love) but of course it has no remote capability.
Just wondering if there any in inexpensive cd players out there that's capable of controlling the volume via remote control (and has a digital output).
thanks in adv!

That used to be a regular feature on Denon units, and probably still is. You request should be easier to find these days as it seems there is a trend in using the CDP or DAC as preamp. You might also check the Cambridge Audio units, I know the upper end units have volume. Probably beyond where you are shopping but any Esoteric I've seen had volume.
The Creek is a beautiful unit that also serves as a DAC with multiple digital inputs. Sounds great, looks great, works great. Can be easily configured to serve as a digital preamp with volume control.

Be careful with older units, as the digital volume controls were often a compromise, losing resolution at lower volumes.
The Adcom GCD-700, and possibly the GCD-600, come to mind.
The Oppo BDP-103 is a very good CD player plus it plays SACD, DVD, DVD Audio, blue ray discs, etc. It has volume control on the remote, works well.
Best regards, Ralph
maybe old marantz 63 SE , I do remember volume control capability, but in 2007 I sold it. So my recollection is fuzzy now.
You're right, the 63 did have a volume control. The problem I had with mine was the thin presentation and total lack of warmth. Maybe I had a bad sample, but I sold it after a few months. These units are probably getting a bit old to consider anyway.
