Hi Abe,
I got this response from PS Audio
"
I briefly read through the forum you linked.
The culprit on the forum is Apple Lossless files and some compression issue.
I would try getting your customer to experiment in a way that gives repeatable results.
The questions I would want to ask are:
What is the source?
What are the files?
What is the output type (PCM or DSD)?
Are there any files that play without issues?
Are there files that play with more issues?
If he is trying to play through a USB cable he could be hearing artifacts stemming from capacitive coupling of the cable if he has an older NuWave DAC and a newer, sophisticated Audiophile cable with extensive shielding.
I would suggest you work this problem until you get something repeatable.
I hope this helped.
Let me know if I can assist further"
Do you think the above might shed more light?
Thank you
Follow Ups:
I didn't quite follow the response from PS Audio and I'm not sure why they mentioned Apple Lossless files and compression issues. I used Apple Lossless through my PS Audio NuWave DAC for years, but through USB rather than optical TOSLINK.
In any case, good luck with your buyer.
Can you ask him to try using Coax instead? He could pick up a 1.5 meter cable at Radio Shack for testing. (they will accept returns).
