The ONE test I read at the time showed the various MASH players were inferior to what was common from the Philips camp at the same time. The TD1541S chipset, a 16 bit effort, was preferred by almost all listeners to the single bit stuff.
If you like 'vintage' try to find a Philips player with 16 bit chipset.
Too much is never enough
I bought a Technics SL-PS70 back around 1991. It as a big improvement over my 1st generation Yamaha player, but noting compared to the modern generation of sigma-delta or R2R DACS.
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich ...

That I used in my system at College.
I certainly had one. OK on some music e.g. classic rock but it was hopeless for repertoire with a wide dynamic range like some piano recitals. Set the mf passages for a comfortable sound level and forte sections would clip. Not a fault of the MASH DAC but the amplifier was rather limited, at least with Sennheiser 'phones (300ohm).
Good player- both Panasonic and Technics used the MASH technology.
